Telematics Control Unit #2 Development

As a lead Vehicle Component Software Engineer, DDI had the opportunity to consult with a major automotive OEM on an exciting project to develop a new multiplatform Telematics Control Unit (TCU) and integrate it with cloud systems. This project was at the forefront of connected vehicle technology, combining advanced hardware with sophisticated software and cloud connectivity.

DDI's role involved close collaboration with both the platform and cloud teams, serving as a bridge between these crucial components of the system. One of DDI's primary responsibilities was participating in the definition of requirements and detailed designs for several key functions. This included developing solutions for Over-The-Air (OTA) vehicle updates, a critical feature that allows for remote software upgrades and maintenance, enhancing vehicle functionality and security without requiring physical access to the vehicle.

Another significant aspect of DDI's work involved vehicle provisioning, which entails the initial setup and configuration of the TCU when it's first installed in a vehicle. This process is crucial for ensuring that each unit is properly integrated with the vehicle's systems and can communicate effectively with the cloud infrastructure.

Vehicle security was a top priority throughout the project. DDI worked on designing robust security measures to protect against potential cyber threats, ensuring the integrity of data transmission between the vehicle and the cloud, and safeguarding critical vehicle systems from unauthorized access.

Additionally, DDI was involved in ensuring that our designs complied with ISO-26262 safety standards, which are critical for functional safety in road vehicles. This involved rigorous risk assessment, implementing fail-safe mechanisms, and extensive testing to ensure that our TCU met the highest safety standards required in the automotive industry.
